Gary Sund and Sophia Brelvi began their work this summer.
Two new staff members joined the Title IX Office this summer. On July 1, Gary Sund began his role as deputy coordinator for response. On July 22, Sophia Brelvi arrived to take up the job of deputy coordinator for training.
"With Gary and Sophia, our team is finally complete," says Kristi Clemens, the Title IX coordinator and Clery Act compliance officer. "Our skill sets are complementary, and are rooted in the same core values of support, equity, and education."
The Title IX Office is a resource for Dartmouth's policies and procedures for preventing and responding to sexual assault, sexual and gender-based harassment, and other forms of sexual misconduct.
The addition of Brelvi and Sund will allow the Title IX Office to "continue being highly responsive to reports, as well as available for trainings or other meetings," Clemens says. "Don't hesitate to reach out to us!"
Brelvi is responsible for creating and coordinating training programs and developing new ways to educate the community about the work of the Title IX office.
She comes to Dartmouth from Morehouse College, where she served as director of Title IX, Ethics, and Compliance. She is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, where she completed a double-major in international business and political science. She earned a JD from the Michigan State University College of Law.
As deputy coordinator for response, Sund is the primary person in the Title IX office to receive disclosures and enact supportive remedies, Clemens says.
Sund has more than 20 years of experience as a social worker, working in a variety of roles with children, adults, and seniors, most recently in public schools. He holds a bachelor's of science degree in health and human services from the University of Maine.
"Gary is highly skilled at working with people in difficult situations, and I know his compassion and kindness will be a great asset. Sophia's background in law brings a new level of analysis to the office, and she will be developing training to help bring about cultural change," Clemens says.
