Dartmouth has received seven Circle of Excellence Awards from the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE), including a grand gold award for The Call To Lead: a Campaign for Dartmouth.

The awards recognize several communications pieces about the College’s $3 billion Call to Lead capital campaign, produced by the Office of Advancement Communications; the Centennial Circle program, an effort to develop the power of women’s philanthropy; a philanthropy report on the Tuck School of Business capital campaign, The Tuck Difference: The Campaign for Wise Leaders; and an Office of Communications video about a faculty-led research and teaching expedition in Greenland.

In addition to the Circle of Excellence Awards, CASE recognized Dartmouth—along with Harvard and Stanford—for “overall performance” in educational fundraising in the category of private research/doctoral institutions with endowments over $1.2 billion. Dartmouth also placed in the top 10 of CASE’s ranking of the “50 Most Supportive Alumni Networks.”

“Congratulations to all of our colleagues across campus who are telling Dartmouth’s story every day with creativity and dedication,” says Justin Anderson, vice president for communications. “It’s gratifying to see their efforts recognized by our peers.”

The Circle of Excellence awards include:

  • A grand gold award for The Call to Lead case statement—a statement of the campaign’s purpose and goals—produced by Advancement Communications. Judges praised the piece’s production values and “clear, concise, and compelling” arguments. “Great photos, strong writing, and bold, urgent headings make it inviting and interesting to read.”
  • A gold award for the Dartmouth Gift Opportunity Catalogue—a project detailing opportunities for philanthropic giving in The Call to Lead campaign. “The judges were impressed by Dartmouth’s ability to see a problem and fix it.”
  • A gold award for Dartmouth’s Centennial Circle program, launched in 2014 to close the gender gap in the College’s annual giving. The judges called the program “a national example for how to engage women in the power of giving.”
  • A silver award for the summer 2018 issue of Occom: A Chronicle of Dartmouth Philanthropy. Judges cited the newsletter’s focus on engaging first-person stories and “unique content not found online.”
  • A silver award for Tuck’s “Tuck Innovation and Impact Report 2018,” which the judges recognized for its “great layout and design with concise and clear ties with campaign and mission.”
  • A bronze award for what the judges called a “striking and bold” ad series promoting The Call to Lead. The series, titled “Now Is Our Time to Change the World,” appeared in the Dartmouth Alumni Magazine.
  • A bronze award for an Office of Communications-produced video, At the Front Line of Climate Change, which documented faculty and students doing scientific research in Greenland. Citing the production’s “compelling interviews, beautiful scenery, and strong storytelling,” the judges called the production “a beautifully shot, topical story exploring climate change and science education.”

CASE is the leading membership organization for educational advancement professionals. The CASE Circle of Excellence Awards “recognize hundreds of institutions whose talented staff members advanced their institutions last year through innovative, inspiring, and creative ideas,” according to the council’s website. The 399 winners in 2019 were selected from more than 3,000 entries.
