Gatherings feature remarks by President Hanlon and refreshments, music, and giveaways.
Faculty, staff, and students are invited to ring in the start of the College’s 250th year on Jan. 10 at one of nine simultaneous celebrations across campus.
Starting at 4 p.m., each event will offer refreshments, music, and giveaways. Greetings and introductions by 250th celebration co-chairs Cheryl Bascomb ’82, vice president for alumni relations, and , the Ted and Helen Geisel Third Century Professor in the Humanities, will be followed by remarks by President Philip J. Hanlon ’77. The kickoff messages will be broadcast at each location at 4:25 pm.
Dartmouth will commemorate the 250th anniversary of its founding throughout 2019 with a slate of celebrations, academic and arts programming, and a service opportunity for the entire Dartmouth community. “This is a time to honor our College, both as an enduring institution and as one that continues to evolve to prepare tomorrow’s leaders,” says Bascomb.
The theme of the 250th celebration is “Honoring Our Past, Inspiring Our Future.”
“People can celebrate in their own way, but we encourage people to reach out, connect with others, learn something new, and think about the impact we can have—through Dartmouth—on our world,” she says.
The year of 250th anniversary events will include exhibits, academic initiatives, opportunities for service and giving, performances, and 250th keepsakes. Faculty, staff, and students are invited to join in the festivities at the celebration location that is most convenient to them. Locations are:
