The next vice president for alumni relations will succeed Martha Beattie, who is retiring.
An Alumni Advisory Committee has been formed to assist in the recruitment of a new vice president for alumni relations to succeed Martha Beattie ’76, who announced her retirement in September.
Jennifer Avellino ’89, a past president of the Dartmouth Alumni Council, will chair the committee. The other members are R. Bradford “Brad” Evans ’64, a former trustee; Peter Robinson ’79, also a former trustee; Eugene “Buddy” Teevens ’79, head football coach at the College; Burgwell “Burgie” Howard ’86; Mabelle Hueston ’86, second vice president of the Association of Alumni; Jennifer Tisdel Schorsch ’87; F. Jon Kull ’88, dean of Dartmouth’s School of Graduate and Advanced Studies; Nestor Paz Galindo ’93, an alumni council member; Alyse Streicher ’95, an alumni council member; S. Caroline Kerr ’05, a current trustee; and Jonathan “Jay” Webster ’13. Dartmouth is partnering with the firm Sandler Search, run by CEO and Founder Josie Sandler ’91, to support this effort.
Senior Vice President for Advancement Robert Lasher ’88 says the committee’s members represent six decades at Dartmouth and are dedicated members of the community. In addition to their own time spent in Hanover, Evans, Robinson, and Hueston are the parents of current students or alumni.
“I want to thank the committee members in advance for the time they will spend doing this important work for their alma mater,” says Lasher, adding that the College welcomes recommendations for the vice president’s position.
“On the eve of Dartmouth’s 250th anniversary, we are proud of the remarkable sense of community and tradition that distinguishes the Dartmouth experience, and we see the opportunity to foster and sustain these bonds as core to our responsibility as alumni,” Lasher wrote this week in an email to alumni. “We also look to advance connections and communication among our increasingly global, diverse, and digitally connected alumni body.”
Lasher praises Beattie, who has spent more than six years leading the Office of Alumni Relations. “We are deeply grateful to Martha for her leadership,” he says.
The vice president for alumni relations provides strategic vision and direction for alumni communications, engagement, programming, and volunteer leadership in service to the College and its global network of more than 81,000 alumni. The vice president leads a team that oversees alumni leadership, Dartmouth Alumni Magazine, class activities, the Admissions Ambassador and Dartmouth for Life programs, as well as lifelong learning programs on behalf of the alumni of the undergraduate College and the graduate and professional schools.
