Body

Over the past two years, Jeremy DeSilva, an associate professor of anthropology, has been part of an international team of experts analyzing a monumental discovery: more than 1,600 fossils found in a cave in South Africa. DeSilva and his colleagues have concluded that the fossils belong to a previously unknown species of hominin—Homo naledi.

In this video, DeSilva talks about his analysis of the foot and leg bones—his area of expertise—and about what the find means for our understanding of human evolution. Read more about the discovery.
