“We as a nation have been building, on average, one dam per day since the signing of the Declaration of Independence,” says Frank Magilligan, a professor of geography, in a NOVA Next story about the history of dams and how some are now being removed from U.S. rivers.

Magilligan, The Frank J. Reagan ’09 Chair of Policy Studies, and his colleagues are studying how the rivers respond when dams are removed. “Dam removals help us understand how rivers behave,” he says.
