No. 2 Qaeda Leader May Have Died (‘The New York Times’)

Associate Professor of Government Dirk Vandewalle, an expert on Libya, tells The New York Times that drone strikes—like the recent one in Yemen that may have killed Al Qaeda’s No. 2 leader and another very recent one in Libya—are no substitute for a more lasting strategy in Libya.

“What we have in Libya is utter chaos,” Vandewalle tells the Times. “The American strike shows that we’re still relying on ad hoc measures rather than consistent policies along with the Europeans.”
