Ancient Greeks Used Portable Grills at Picnics (LiveScience)

Assistant Professor of Classical Studies Julie Hruby says the ancient Greeks left behind not only treasure-laden tombs and extraordinary palaces, but also more basic things, such as portable grills and souvlaki trays, LiveScience reports.

“We should probably envision these as portable cooking devices—perhaps used during Mycenaean picnics,” Hruby tells LiveScience, which describes the Mycenaeans as “quite sophisticated cooks” who used grill pits and even non-stick pans to make bread.
