Instead of wearing a traditional track and field singlet during competitions, Pappas sports homemade versions of the uniform, like one with polka dots and stripes and another with the Spider-Man emblem. “A race will always hurt whether it’s slow or fast or good or bad, so if I can, I like to think about little things that make me smile,” Pappas tells ESPN.
