Why Well-Informed People Are Also Close-Minded (Bloomberg)

A study by Brendan Nyhan, an assistant professor of government, and two colleagues suggests that people who have a lot of knowledge about a subject are not apt to change their minds when a new and conflicting piece of information comes their way, Bloomberg reports.

For instance, writes Bloomberg, the study indicates “that if you know a lot about politics, you are more likely to be emotionally invested in what you believe. Efforts to undermine or dislodge those beliefs might well upset you and therefore backfire.”
