However, she points out, a recent study from Yale found that academic scientists, both male and female, reached different conclusions about job candidates depending on the gender listed by the applicant.
There is a simple test that would end the wage gap between female and male employees, says Lipson.
“If we can bring awareness of gender stereotyping to the forefront of the decision-making process in a concrete way,” she writes, “it could shift bias from the realm of the unconscious to that of the conscious. There, it would be easier to change.”
