WFRD-FM 99Rock, a branch of Dartmouth Broadcasting, is hosting “99Rock’s Hurricane Relief 2012” drive from November 2 through 4 at the Walmart in West Lebanon, N.H. The drive will take place from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. all three days.
The drive will collect goods for victims of Hurricane Sandy in New Jersey. Needed items include non-perishable foods, gas cans, cases of bottled water, shampoo, toothbrushes, and anything else that could assist storm victims. The goal is to fill a tractor-trailer with supplies to support those affected by the storm; the truck will be driven to New Jersey on Monday, November 5.
The student-run WFRD-FM has held similar drives in the past. It organized relief efforts for victims of Hurricane Irene and tornado victims in Missouri.
“In May of 2011, 99Rock was amazed at the outpouring of support for our trip to deliver relief items to the tornado victims in Joplin, Missouri,” says Chris Garrett, a disc jockey for the station. “Now that Mother Nature has struck again, we feel it is once again our duty to help out however we can. Hosting this relief drive allows people from New Hampshire and Vermont to help as well.”
Last October, “99Rock’s Tornado Relief 2011 Project” received a first place award in the Public Service Campaign of the Year category presented by New Hampshire Gov. John Lynch at the annual New Hampshire Association of Broadcasters’ meeting.
Earlier this year, 99Rock became available on iHeartRadio, which broadcasts radio online and through mobile apps.
