With Halloween looming, New York Times Motherlode blogger Sarah Pinneo writes about the challenges parents face in limiting the amount of sugar their children consume and discusses her concerns about her own children developing Type II diabetes. Pinneo turned to endocrinologist John Turco, director of Dartmouth College Health Service at Dartmouth and an associate professor of medicine at the Geisel School of Medicine, for his expertise on the subject.
According to Turco, Pinneo writes, her children have a 50 percent chance of developing Type II diabetes. “To hear him say it out loud was a shock. It shouldn’t have been, but it was,” Pinneo says.
