Educator Spotlight: N. Bruce Duthu (Indian Country)

A profile in Indian Country chronicles the career of N. Bruce Duthu ’80, chair of the Native American Studies Program and Samson Occom Professor of Native American Studies at Dartmouth, from his time as a lawyer to his transition to teaching. After practicing law for several years, Duthu returned to New Hampshire in 1986, to “give back” to Dartmouth’s Native American Program, reports Indian Country.

“Once I was in the classroom, to be very honest, I knew that I was not going to go back to being a lawyer,” Duthu told Indian Country. “Working with students and being both in a counseling capacity but also as an educator—being able to teach a course—was very, very addictive in a very good way. I just knew that this was going to be something that I was going to enjoy doing for a long time.”
