As Medical News Today points out, the researchers have found that age plays a factor in determining the effect that exercise has on memory and the brain, and that exercising at an early age plays an important role in brain development.

Also, as the article notes, the team of researchers has identified a gene that appears to mediate the degree to which exercise has a beneficial effect on the brain in certain individuals, leading to the possibility of using exercise as an intervention for mental illness.
