Dartmouth Wind Symphony Performs June 2

Update 6/2/2011: The Dartmouth Wind Symphony Study Break Concert will be held in Rollins Chapel at 2 p.m.

If the Dartmouth Wind Symphony has its way, the sound of music will call the College and town out of libraries, labs, and offices for the ensemble’s 26th annual Study Break Concert. The performance, held on the lawn directly in front of Baker Library, begins at 2 p.m. on Thursday, June 2.

Sponsored by President Jim Yong Kim as a celebration of the academic year’s completion, the event is free of charge and is open to the public. The performance will take place in Rollins Chapel in case of rain.

Conductor Matthew Marsit will lead the group in pieces by Percy Grainger, Gustav Holst, Ralph Vaughn Williams, John Phillip Sousa, and more. The concert highlights senior soloist bassoonist Nick Pulito ’11.

The Dartmouth Wind Symphony is a select, auditioned wind ensemble of 50 members, performing a wide variety of music from the late 19th, 20th, and 21st century wind ensemble repertoire. Its musicians include Dartmouth students as well as members of the Hanover and regional community.
