President Jim Yong Kim announced today the appointment of Pamela L. Peedin as Chief Investment Officer (CIO), effective February 1, 2011. As CIO, Peedin will oversee Dartmouth’s Investment Office and the management of the College’s $3 billion endowment. Peedin is a 1989 graduate of Dartmouth College and a 1998 graduate of the Tuck School of Business.
Peedin, who has served as CIO of Boston University (BU) since May 2007, will report directly to President Kim. “Pam is an accomplished and highly regarded investment professional with excellent experience in managing endowments,” said President Kim. “Her track record of success and her passion for Dartmouth make her the ideal person to lead this critical area of the College. We are thrilled to welcome her back to her alma mater.”
At BU, Peedin established the institution’s Investment Office that provided day-to-day management of BU’s $1 billion portfolio. Under Peedin’s leadership, the returns for BU’s endowment during fiscal year 2010 were 12.7 percent. BU’s five-year average return places it in the top quartile of the Cambridge Associates College and University Universe benchmark. (Dartmouth’s endowment produced a 10 percent return for fiscal year 2010.)
Peedin said, “It will be a privilege to play a role in supporting the student experience and the College’s mission of educating future leaders. This is an opportunity to work with incredibly talented people, including President Kim and members of the Board of Trustees. Dartmouth has always been a special place for me, and I think the prospects for the College have never been brighter.”
Prior to her work at BU, Peedin spent nine years at Cambridge Associates, an investment-consulting firm where she rose to the position of managing director. At Cambridge Associates, Peedin guided $2.5 billion worth of aggregate assets for numerous organizations, including universities, independent schools, and foundations.
Peedin, who says she has “always been viscerally drawn to schools,” was a teacher and administrator at Oldfields School in Maryland after graduating from Dartmouth with a major in psychology. She went on to direct financial aid at Northfield Mount Hermon School in Massachusetts.
As Dartmouth’s CIO, Peedin will work closely with Trustee Bill Helman ’80, chair of the Dartmouth Board of Trustees’ Investment Committee. “Pam has demonstrated a keen ability to construct portfolios and select funds,” said Helman. “Her appointment reflects Dartmouth’s desire to further strengthen its world-class investment organization.”
Peedin and her husband, Paul Rebuck, are the parents of two boys, Matt, 10, and Charlie, 8.
