A young teacher investigating a theft sets off a cascade of schoolwide crises in Germany's nail-biting Oscar nominee for Best International Feature.

Carla Nowak, a dedicated sports and math teacher, starts her first job at a high school. When a series of thefts occur at the school, Carla is annoyed by how quickly others blame a Turkish student and she decides to get to the bottom of the matter on her own. Attempting to mediate between outraged parents, opinionated colleagues and aggressive students, she is relentlessly confronted with the structures of the school system. The more desperately she tries to do everything right, the more the young teacher threatens to break. Even the best of intentions can fray the social fabric.
