Abstract: Foreshock transients play a role in the solar wind-magnetosphere coupling. The dynamic pressure perturbations associated foreshock transients can locally distort the magnetopause, which drives disturbances within the magnetosphere and ionosphere. In the first part of my talk, I will give a brief introduction of the geospace environment and the impact from the solar wind. In the second part, I will talk about foreshock transients and give an overview on what we have learned in the past decade. In the third part, I will present our recent global hybrid simulation work on the evolution of foreshock transients and their impact on the magnetosphere and ionosphere as they propagate from the dayside to nightside.
