Davis will discuss the promise and the challenges associated with molecular imaging, and describe several novel imaging strategies designed to overcome these shortcomings and elucidate drug/contrast agent behavior in detail. First, he will describe the development and application of a research animal cryo-imaging technology capable of producing high-resolution 3-dimensional whole-body images of multiple reporters simultaneously. He will also describe a paired-agent imaging strategy designed to compensate for nonspecific uptake of targeted imaging agents in tumors, and show that the methodology can rapidly assess the interaction between a drug and its target. Finally, he will describe several ongoing clinical studies evaluating these methodologies in breast and brain tumor surgery. Together, these technologies can advance our understanding of biology, support drug development programs, and provide specific diagnostic information in clinical practice.
