Artist in Conversation: Pico Iyer & Ragamala Dance Co.

Three leading members of the global Indian arts and culture community look at the way ancient traditions manifest themselves in the modern world. They also discuss their shared fascination with the Indian city of Varanasi, where Hindu burial rituals on the sacred Ganges River reach ecstatic, aesthetic heights. Taking questions from viewers through live chat, Ranee and Aparna present that pre-recorded conversation as well as  sequences of Ragamala’s “rapturous and profound” (New York Times) dances, which are a contemporary, multimedia take on the eloquent Indian bharatanatyam dance tradition. The conversation also introduces Iyer to Dartmouth, where he’ll be a Montgomery Fellow this fall.
