Why would someone defend capitalism? What is the relationship between morality and capitalism? What kind of freedom does capitalism offer, and why does it matter? So far, the political debate has, to a large extent, focused on capitalism and an alternative system, often times soclailsm. The advocates for capitalism tend to focus on economic prosperity, while the advocates for the alternative claim to fight for morality. This discussion has driven many people apart and continues to contribute to the country's current political division. In an intellectual environment that should celebrate free-thinking, there is always room for novel objections and ideas, and we believe that Dr. Brook's arguments are worth being incorporated into the broader political discussion of the Dartmouth community. He presents the moral argument for free enterprise, which, many argue, is the most defining element of capitalism. With the speaker event, we hope to encourage our peers to think for themselves and explore the great potential for establishing common grounds between political ideologies across the spectrum.
