Although harm reduction has been well-grounded in the literature for decades, it remains a controversial approach to treating those struggling with addiction. MaryKate Duska is an MPH candidate at The Dartmouth Institute, and was introduced to harm reduction while working as a counselor at a syringe access program from 2016-2018. Her talk will focus on the basic building-blocks of the harm reduction paradigm: what it is, why we need it, and its efficacy in reducing the inherent risks of drug use.
