Academy Award Nominee for Best Director, Best Foreign Language Film and Best Cinematography

Traversing the tumultuous terrain of a passionate love affair spanning decades and countries on each side of the 1950s political divide, Cold War follows Wiktor (Tomasz Kot), a musician working on a government project. As he scours the Polish countryside looking for folk singers to join a state-sponsored cultural tour, he locks eyes with the young and fiery Zula (Joanna Kulig). Despite vastly different backgrounds and temperaments, their spark is instant and unstoppable.

Separated by politics, character flaws and unfortunate twists of fate—their fierce and utterly doomed romance unfolds over decades, an impossible love story in impossible times. Director Paweł Pawilowski has crafted a grand epic that crackles with vitality, stripped to its essentials—the result is a film that dazzles with each exquisite frame.

D: Paweł Pawilowski, Poland, subtitled, 2018, 1h24m
