What do we mean by "freedom of expression" or "freedom of speech?" Should the definition be shaped by the specific needs of the Dartmouth academic community or should it be universally applicable? Should Dartmouth college recognize that the question of freedom of expression is sufficiently important that it should be accorded the same level of official attention as the honor principle?

These, and similar questions, are debated increasingly in academic communities across the nation, including at Dartmouth. They are at the heart of a public forum organized by some concerned Dartmouth undergraduates under the sponsorship of OSHER@Dartmouth.
