Film: "Spider-man: Into the Spider-verse"
Writer/producers Phil Lord ’97 and Christopher Miller ’97 lend their unique talents to a visually-explosive, fresh vision of the Spider-Man Universe.
Golden Globe winner for Best Animated Feature
Phil Lord ’97 and Christopher Miller ’97, the geniuses behind The Lego Movie and 21 Jump Street, deliver a “dreamy, funny, self-aware, visually explosive delight” (Vanity Fair).
Bitten by a radioactive spider, Brooklyn teen Miles Morales (Shameik Moore, Dope) discovers the limitless possibilities of the Spider-Verse, where more than one can wear the mask. Thanks to a disruption in the space-time continuum (!), Miles meets a multiplicity of web-slingers from different dimensions: other Peter Parkers, an anime heroine, a cartoon pig, a film noir avatar and “the” Spider Woman. Together they navigate adolescence, their awesome powers and anti-arachnid villains.
The story is clever and just complicated enough, mischievous and reverential. The characters feel liberated by the animation and the audience will, too. Old-style graphic techniques commingle with digital wizardry and the result is bright, jaunty and inventive. Feeding your heart, brain and eyes in equal measure, Spider-Verse bursts with surprises—among them the seemingly endless supply of A-list voice talent, including Mahershala Ali, Chris Pine, Liev Schreiber, Zoë Kravitz, Nicolas Cage, Hailee Steinfeld and Lily Tomlin. Don’t miss this chance to see it on the big Spaulding screen! D: Bob Persichetti, Peter Ramsey & Rodney Rothman, US, 2018, 1h57m
