Description: This talk consists of a short review of the concepts of medical malpractice, identification of common sources of medicolegal risk in Dermatology and Dermatopathology, and techniques for mitigating risk and maximizing patient care.
Bio: Whitney A. High, MD, JD, MEng is Professor of Dermatology & Pathology, in the Department of Dermatology at the University of Colorado School of Medicine in Denver, CO. Dr. High serves as the Vice Chairman of the department and is the Director of the Dermatopathology Service.
Dr. High has a diploma in Tropical Medicine & Hygiene from the Gorgas Institute, and has recognized expertise in infectious dermatology. He is the author of more than three dozen book chapters, more than 80 indexed peer-reviewed articles, and four, soon to be five, textbooks. Dr. High has served and still serves as an editor and editorial board member of several peer-reviewed journals in his field. Dr. High’s research laboratory was the first to discover gadolinium in the skin in nephrogenic systemic fibrosis, leading to a new black box warning from the FDA.
Dr. High is nationally recognized in his field, and he has given lectures in dermatology throughout the United States and in international forums. He is board-certified both in Dermatology and Dermatopathology and maintains robust clinical practices.
