In college I majored in art as an undergraduate and then began graduate work at the Boston Museum School, where my focus was pottery. I also went to Haystack Mountain School of Crafts in Maine for several weeks during three summers.

I continued with pottery and eventually built my own kiln. I returned to watercolors and since 2003, I have studied with a number of people in the Upper Valley.

I grew up with horses, which explains why they are prominent in my work. Add to this many years running wild in the woods and fields, having adventures on my own, and working for Outward Bound gave me some of the insights that I now bring to my art.

Once I have sketched and planned out what the final painting will be, I sometimes allow the watercolors tell me where to go next. There are times when delightful surprises get me to change course in fun ways. Allowing for spontaneous events keeps the work fresh and lets me continually look for new ways of expressing what I see and feel.
