The Letterpress Intensive workshop is offering an opportunity to explore letterpress typography by typesetting and printing poetry interlined with its translation in a second language & typeface. Students with an interest in Latin, Hebrew, or Greek are especially encouraged to attend but no classic language knowledge or letterpress experience is required. Participants will learn about typefaces and how to hand set & print a short poem of one's choice using movable metal type. They will receive hands-on instruction in traditional fine book typography and printing. Examples of the project from earlier workshops are on display outside the Treasure Room in Baker.
An informational meeting open to all will be held Sunday, April 1, from 2 to 3 pm in Baker room 21. At the end of this session, attendees can decide if they would like to register for the workshop. Subsequent sessions will be held on Sundays from 2 to 5 pm. Faculty & staff are welcome to attend with students given priority for registration which is limited to six. All materials and equipment provided by the workshop.
