Pragmatists is an absurdist drama by the Polish playwright and philosopher Stanisław Ignacy Witkiewicz. In an imaginative contemporary adaptation, Andrew Maillet (Digital Musics '19) and filmmaker Zbigniew Bzymek approach the text as performer-technicians using sound and projections as mutual-mutable "costumes" in a proto-VR mixed reality environment, addressing Witkiewicz's theater of pure form towards the baffling dimensions contemporary media space and the ideologies that pervade it. With projection and lighting design by Camilla Tassi (Digital Musics '18).

Andrew Maillet is an artist who works in music composition, sound design, computer programming and performance. As an associate artist with the Wooster Group, he designed systems to streamline video and sound playback for A Pink Chair (In Place of a Fake Antique), and continues to collaborate in developing integrated media and show control systems for theater. He has sound designed productions for the Yale Dramatic Association, and has performed his unique brand of “parlor pop” music at New York venues including the Bitter End, 54 Below, Dixon Place, and JACK Brooklyn. His current solo work uses game-like sonic environments to extend a comparative perspective on media space and the physical limitations of performance. Andrew graduated with a B.A. in Music and Humanities from Yale University and is currently pursuing a Master of Arts in Digital Musics at Dartmouth College. More at http://andrewmaillet.com.

He got his start in Europe, working as a video designer with Europe Prize-winning director, Krystian Lupa on seven shows (including Zaratustra at The Athens Festival and The Seagull at The Alexandrinsky).
