Objectives – Participants will be able to:

 

  1. Describe examples of the ways race intersects medicine and contributes to health disparities
  2. Demonstrate an understanding of the medical culture of accommodation
  3. Identify ethical dilemmas related to racial preference, patient bias, and provider bias             

Dr. Stephanie White is an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center and fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics. She received an undergraduate degree from the University of California, Santa Barbara and her medical degree at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. She completed her residency at Jackson Memorial Hospital/University of Miami Health System. Dr. White left her academic position at the University of Miami to join the Geisel faculty in 2015. During her time here, she has been increasingly involved in diversity and inclusion related issues and is currently the Geisel Diversity Liaison for Student/Resident Advising and the Geisel representative to the AAMC on diversity related issues. She has published articles on staff diversity in Inside Higher Education and recently published an OpEd on the pediatrician’s role in discussing the impact of race. In addition to her clinical and administrative responsibilities, Dr. White is passionate about medical education and is currently pursuing her Masters of Science in Health Professions Education at Rutgers University.
