The Hour of Power event honors those who are fighting or have succumbed to cancer and started in memorty of former Carleton College swimmer Edward H. "Ted" Mullin, who passed away from synovial sarcoma, a rare soft-tissue cancer that disproportionately affects children and young adults.  The annual swimming relay done in Ted’s honor has grown from 15 teams in its first year to over 180 international teams and more than 8,000 athletes as it begins it's 12th year. Participating teams engage in continuous relays of any stroke for a full hour of all-out swimming, utilizing teamwork to try to keep all the lanes in the pool on the same lap. This requires maximal effort and non-stop high energy for the duration of a full hour.  Funds raised go towards the Ted Mullin fund for pediactric cancer research.  We invite you to drop by the pool stands at any point during our Hour of Power to see what this event is all about, cheer, support the athletes, and share in Dartmouth swim team’s energy as they ‘leave it in the pool’ for the fight against cancer.
