For more than 200 years, Mozart’s allegorical fairy tale has charmed audiences and inspired artists. Julie Taymor’s (The Lion King) spectacular production—debuting here in its full-length German version—captures the masterwork’s earthy comedy and noble mysticism. Charles Castronovo is the young prince Tamino, who finds himself in a strange land, forced to undergo mysterious tests so he can rescue the woman he loves, Pamina, played by Golda Schultz. René Pape is the high-priest Sarastro, Markus Werba charms as the bird catcher Papageno and Kathryn Lewek is the Queen of the Night. Music Director Emeritus James Levine conducts.
