Green-Way: Two Clean Energy Startup Stories
Troy McBride Th'01, was a professor of physics & engineering when he left academia for a clean energy startup with three engineers from Dartmouth.
Troy McBride, PhD Th'01, left academia for a clean energy startup called SustainX which received venture funding from Polaris, Rockport, and GE Capital Partners, as well as grant funding from the US DOE. SustainX designed, procured, built, and successfully tested the first-ever 1 MW electricity-to-electricity isothermal compressed air bulk energy storage system with no external fuel and greater than 50% round trip efficiency. In late 2011, Troy co-founded his second clean energy startup, Norwich Solar Technologies, this time without venture capital funding. Norwich Solar Technologies now employs approximately 30 people in clean energy in the Upper Valley, many from Dartmouth. In this presentation, Troy will talk about clean energy, startup companies, and finding your "green" way.
