Gardening, mechanical creatures, books and neighborly friction figure in his quirky English Amélie comedy. Bella (Jessica Brown Findlay) is a beautifully eccentric young woman who dreams of writing and illustrating a successful children’s book. Forced to deal with her neglected garden or face eviction, Bella meets her nemesis, match and mentor in her neighbor (Tom Wilkinson). Grumpy, loveless and rich, he lives next door and just so happens to be an amazing horticulturalist. This is an utterly perfect film for springtime and for fans of Downton Abbey’s Sibyl. D: Simon Aroud, UK, 2017, 1h 32m

“Writer-director Simon Aboud doesn’t push the quirk factor; even when the narrative is at its most playful, he keeps it rooted to a lived-in reality. Mining familiar territory with an earnest clarity, he shapes a winning fantasy about hearts opening and friendships blooming.” The Hollywood Reporter
