Academy Award Nomination for Best Animated Feature

Brought to life through gorgeously rendered stop-motion animation, this somber, yet whimsical coming-of-age story stands as a testament to the resilience of the human heart. After his mother’s sudden death, Zucchini is befriended by police officer Raymond who accompanies him to his new foster home, filled with other young orphans. Struggling in the sometime strange and hostile environment, but with Raymond’s help and his newfound friends, Zucchini eventually learns to trust and love, as he searches for a new family of his own. This new English language version stars Will Forte, Nick Offerman, Ellen Page and Amy Sedaris and premiered this year at Sundance. D: Claude Barras, France, 2016, 1h 15m

Zucchini is preceded by another Barras short: The Genie in a Tin of Ravioli (subtitled, 7m)

“A vividly realized, finger-on-the-pulse looks at the growing pains of youngsters...from the gawky humor so typical of juvenility to the way in which children on the brink of adulthood learn in fits and starts, as if early adolescence were a testing ground for adult behavior.” The Hollywood Reporter
