Collaboration or Resistance? Fostering Racial and Economic Justice in a Divided Nation

This presentation will examine what it means to fight for the legacy of Dr. King and the civil rights movement, in an America as divided as it has been in years. With the rise of Donald Trump, the end of the Obama era, conflicts over police tactics, and economic injustice facing millions of Americans (of all colors), it is more important than ever to articulate a vision of multiracial democracy that can unite people of good will. To capitulate to fear, hopelessness or cynicism about the prospects for justice is to collaborate with the forces of inequity and oppression. Only by recapturing the real message of Dr. King — one of  opposition to militarism and a commitment to a color and class-conscious democracy — can America hope to survive as a productive and remotely fair-minded nation.
