"Mass incarceration is one of the great public health challenges of our times."
- Vera Institute of Justice

The past three decades have seen an exponential (700 percent) rise in the US prison population. Incarceration cripples the wellbeing of the incarcerated, fractures families, diminishes economic opportunities, and impairs social mobility. Due to the extent to which it has impacted the lives of millions of Americans it is valuable to understand incarceration through the eyes of those who have experienced it.

We invite you to join Beyond the Books in Chilcott Auditorium on Thursday, December 8th at 7:30pm in screening a 30-minute sneak preview of the new documentary, "It's Criminal." This film shares the life-changing experiences of 14 Dartmouth students and 10 female prisoners who worked together in the Telling My Story program at Dartmouth to write and perform an original play about the lives of incarcerated women (trailer:http://itiscriminal.com/?page_id=4).

The film will be followed by a discussion with a panel of two ex-inmates and two students that have participated in the Telling My Story program.
