Vikram Deshpande, MBBS is currently a staff pathologist at the Massachusetts General Hospital and an Associate Professor of Pathology at the Harvard Medical School. His clinical practice is focused on gastrointestinal diseases and his research interests are primarily centered around the study of pancreatic and hepatobiliary diseases. Dr. Deshpande has been an instrumental figure in establishing a novel disease entity, IgG4 related disease.  He has published more than 200 original papers and reviews in a variety of journals including the New England Journal of Medicine, Science, and Nature. He has also made contributions to a number of chapters in textbooks, and serves on the editorial board of a number of journals.

This grand rounds will provide an opportunity for participants to understand the clinical, histological, and immunological aspects of IgG4 related disease, a multisystemic disease characterized by the presence of tumefactive lesions. The speaker will address some historical aspects of the disease, highlight the morphologic and immunohistochemical features, as well as the key clinical and histologic mimics of IgG4 related disease.
