“An intelligent and timely tribute to one of the greatest figures in jazz.” London Jazz News

Mahanthappa’s sizzling, sinuous and inventive playing and compelling projects have made him one of today’s most celebrated alto saxophonists. Bird Calls is an insightful and at times playful homage to Mahanthappa’s lifelong hero, bebop icon Charlie “Bird” Parker. Featuring a stellar quintet including trumpet prodigy Adam O’Farrill, the captivating compositions meld Bird-like motifs with elements of pop, hip hop, funk and the jazz of today, as well as echoes of Mahanthappa’s own Indian heritage.
