This fall term’s Letterpress Intensive workshop is offering an opportunity to explore letterpress typography by typesetting and printing poetry interlined with its translation in a second language and typeface. Participants will learn about historic typefaces and how to hand set and print a short poem of one's choice using movable metal type. Students with an interest in Latin, Hebrew, or ancient Greek are especially encouraged to participate. No letterpress experience or classic language knowledge is required and participants will receive intensive hands-on instruction in the nuances of traditional ne book typography and printing. Examples of the project from earlier workshops are on display outside the Treasure Room in Baker Library.

An informational meeting open to all will be held Sunday, Sept 25, from 2 to 3 pm in room 21 of Baker Library. At the end of this introductory session, attendees can decide if they would like to register to participate in the workshop. Subsequent sessions will be held on Sunday afternoons from 2 to 5 pm through the term. Faculty and staff are welcome to attend with students given priority for participation; enrollment will be limited to six. All materials and equipment will be provided by the workshop. Anyone interested in more information should contact Won.K.Chung @ Dartmouth.edu.
