Mindfulness-based interventions have now been extensively researched in over 3000 publications, including nearly 100 randomized controlled trials, and have been found to be effective in helping people with a wide variety of physical and psychological conditions. Centers for teaching mindfulness now exist at over 20 medical schools and hundreds of hospitals including: Harvard, Duke, Stanford, Brown, and Yale.

Many people have found that mindfulness leads to enhanced workplace performance, reduced stress, improved resilience, and enhanced immune system response. More than simply "stress reduction" MBSR gives people the skills to thrive in all of life's circumstances, especially the very challenging ones, without over-taxing our physiologies and nervous systems. Through mindfulness we can begin to observe those habitual mental patterns that help to create or to intensify pain, anxiety, stress, headaches and many other forms of distress.

We meet one night a week for 8 weeks with an all-day intensive after the seventh week. Classes last 2 hours. You can expect brief talks on aspects of mindfulness practice, stress and self-care with much time devoted to actual practice. We will be working with gentle forms of yoga, as well as qigong and meditation. Additionally there will be time for sharing with each other our experiences, frustrations and new insights and understandings. You do not have to have any special abilities or previous experience in order to benefit from this course. All of us work from where we are.

“To me it was about finding a piece of myself I was not aware existed.  It’s amazing the happiness level this has brought into my life.” -Participant in MBSR course provided for health care professionals at DHMC (spring 2014)
