German Expressionist Fritz Lang, with his fatalistic view of human nature, was perfectly poised to direct this remake of the classic French thriller Le Chien (The Bitch). Chris Cross, a longtime cashier with a gold watch and little else, rescues bad-girl Kitty from her abusive boyfriend. He lets her believe, however, that he is a wealthy artist. As Chris' obsession with the irresistibly vulgar Kitty grows, the meek cashier is seduced, corrupted and transformed into an avenging monster.
