Interventions

Morning Sessions:
- Overview of college student drinking, research on best practices, and introduction to the intervention
- Brief overview of Motivational Interviewing (MI) – considering relevance to a personalized feedback intervention
- Alcohol information relevant to delivery of BASICS
Afternoon Sessions:
- Discussion of substances other than alcohol
- Responding with resistance
- Implementation issues
Day Two: MI
June 18, 2014; 8:00 am–5:00 pm
Deepening and Extending Your MI Skills, Alcohol and Beyond

Morning Sessions:
- Considering the spirit of Motivational Interviewing (MI)
- Thinking reflectively and forming complex reflections
- Practice using the OARS (Open-ended questions, Affirmations, Reflective listening & Summaries) toolbox with a variety of behaviors
- Considering the four foundational processes of MI when talking with students
Afternoon Sessions:
- Identifying and evoking change talk
- Strengthening commitment to change and action planning
- Practice putting it all together!
