This talk will highlight Thayer's microfabrication capabilities and relevant research. The Thayer MicroEngineering lab is a cleanroom configured to provide film deposition and patterning processes similar to those used in microelectronics, but to apply these tools to MicroElectroMechanical Systems (MEMS) and a broad range of other devices not covered by traditional microelectronics. I will focus on two longstanding Thayer projects, microrobots and microinductors, as illustrative of the research enabled by this facility, but will then briefly discuss the work of many other diverse MicroEngineering lab users, in engineering, physics, chemistry, and medicine.
