Objectives – Participants will be able to:
- List at least five risk factors for the development of delirium in (critically) ill patients
- Review strategies to lessen the impact of ICU delirium
- Advocate for those with or at risk of developing ICU delirium
James L. Carroll, Jr., MD, MME, FCCP
Dr. Carroll is a Clinical Associate Professor of Medicinen and Instructor in Medicine and Instructor of Anesthesia at the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth. He received his Medical Degree from the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine in 1994. He completed his internship and residency training in Internal Medicine at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. He was selected as Chief Medicine Resident for the Department of Medicine, and completed his fellowship training in Pulmonary Disease and Critical Care Medicine at the University of Iowa. He received a Master’s degree in Medical Education in 2010 from the University of Iowa.
Dr. Carroll joined the staff at Dartmouth in 2009 in the Section of Pulmonary/Critical Care. He is an active clinical faculty member with a clinical focus on critical care medicine. He is also active in the outpatient pulmonary clinic, where he provides care for adults with respiratory illness and provides post-ICU follow-up for the recently critically ill.
