Title: "Realizing the Cavity Embedded SQUID"
Abstract: Recent progress has allowed for the development of
mesoscopic systems that straddle the line between the classical and
the quantum world. Quantum systems that have a classical nonlinear
analog are of special interest for studying this transition. An
experimental realization of such a system is a microwave cavity
coupled to electrical components comprised of Josephson elements
Here at Dartmouth, breakthroughs in the design of high Q
superconducting cavities allow for a myriad of new experiments. A
system comprised of such a cavity coupled to a SQUID is discussed. The
upcoming experiment will allow access to a quantum regime beyond the
limitations of the dynamical Coulomb blockade. An introduction to
these concepts as well as the fabrication of the cavity-SQUID system
and the experiment will be topics of this seminar.
