Come join renowned Cuban-born dancer, musician, and artist Miguel Periche for a truly divine master class on Afro-Cuban music and movement traditions! All are welcome to learn about the sacred sounds and steps at the root of Cuban rumba, salsa, merengue, and other celebrated modern dance forms. Drummers from the performance group Iroko Nuevo will provide a live demonstration of rhythms played around the world for Cuban gods of West African origin. This free dance and drumming workshop is being offered in conjunction with "African Religions of the Americas" (REL 17/AAAS 83.05), and is graciously sponsored by the Religion Department.
