Classes will meet Wednesday evenings September 25 - November 20, 2013 at 6pm.

Sign up to learn the fundamentals of making “insanely” great typography. The Letterpress Studio at Baker Library is offering to the Dartmouth community over fall and winter terms an opportunity to learn about traditional book arts through the printing of a chapbook of poetry. This evening series of intensive instruction will provide an in-depth experience in the creative aspects and technical nuances of fine letterpress printing.

This first part will cover the basics of hand-setting metal type and the design and printing of text pages. The second part will focus on display type and explore the cover designs for the chapbook using large wood and metal type and printing with colored papers and inks. Each participant will have the opportunity to consider several choices of poetry from the public domain for his or her own book, including small collections of short poems or excerpts from longer works.

Sessions will be held on Wednesdays from 6 to 9 pm in Baker Library starting September25 and will be led by Won K. Chung. Materials and equipment will be provided without charge by the Workshop. Registration is required and will be limited to only eight participants. Dartmouth students and previous Letterpress Intensive participants will receive priority.

Those interested in more information or in signing up should contact Won.K.Chung @ Dartmouth.edu and mention any relevant graphic arts experience.
