Darwin meets Hitchcock in gripping tale of idealistic dreams gone awry, set in the brutal yet alluring landscape of the Galapagos Islands. In 1929 a group of free-thinking Germans started an experimental community on the tiny isle of Floreana. Characters worthy of the richest fiction soon followed, including a decadent baroness intent on building a luxury hotel. But this idyll was ultimately shattered by a violent, still-unsolved murder. Dan Geller and Dayna Goldfine’s remarkable documentary recounts the strange and sordid Floreana tale using the actual journals of the key players, here brought to life by an all-star voice cast (including Cate Blanchett and Diane Kruger). It’s a haunting exploration of wildness, human nature and our struggles to escape what perhaps is inevitable. (US, 2013, 126m) Courtesy of Geller/Goldfine Productions
